A 44-year-old Honaunau man who allegedly shot his neighbor earlier this month pleaded not guilty Thursday to attempted murder.
Hilo Circuit Judge Greg Nakamura ordered Monte Moreau to stand trial before Kona Circuit Judge Elizabeth Strance at 8 a.m. Nov. 3. Moreau, who was indicted on July 14 by a Kona grand jury, is accused of shooting 52-year-old Todd Shaver in the abdomen on July 3.
Shaver, who lives in another apartment in the same building, was hospitalized for his wounds at Kona Community Hospital.
Nakamura maintained Moreau’s $100,000 bail and ordered Moreau to not contact Shaver except through his lawyer and not to threaten or harm Shaver.
He also ordered Moreau to stay at least 300 yards away from Shaver’s residence and workplace.
